One More Way to Support Your Periodontal Health

In our last post, we briefly described the periodontal therapies that Dr. Caputo offers at his Naperville dental office. They include scaling, root planing, antibiotics, and laser treatment. Each one is an effective tool in the fight against periodontal disease and can help our patients restore their oral health.

As great as each service is, though, we’d prefer it if no patient ever had to use one. That’s why we want to spend today’s post talking about another way of supporting your periodontal health—one that works at a preventive level: mouthwash.

If you want a mouthwash that will help you support the health of your gums, what you’re looking for is a simple, antibacterial mouthwash. With an antibacterial mouthwash, you can provide your smile with extra protection against bacteria, plaque, and gingivitis, in addition to hiding bad breath.

Despite how effective antibacterial mouthwashes are, though, you should never push brushing and flossing to the sidelines. Rinsing your teeth and gums with a mouthwash should always follow these regular activities and is intended to give your smile a positive boost.

What Other Kinds of Mouthwashes Are Out There?

If you need help supporting another area of your oral health, you may want something other than an antibacterial mouthwash. Some kinds are designed to target just bad breath and won’t provide any protection for teeth or gums. Others are more focused on the health of teeth and use fluoride to attract important minerals. Still others tackle sensitivity, staining, and symptoms of dry mouth. In short, whatever your needs, there may be a mouthwash that can help you.
